BMW in rehabilitation deal
15/07/2010
Motor manufacturer BMW is poised to save up to £3m after signing up to a back-to-work scheme offered by XL Insurance and rehabilitation specialists IPRS.
As part of the three-year deal, XL provides rehabilitation for both work and non-work related injuries of BMW employees, with IPRS providing on-site rehabilitation services at BMW’s offices in Oxford and Swindon. Staff at other sites, including the Bracknell head office, will be granted access to off-site care.
The focus of the scheme, available to all BMW’s 5000 UK employees, is to return staff to work as quickly as possible using techniques including physiotherapy, work conditioning and functional capacity evaluation.
IPRS group chief executive David Bingham, claimed the scheme could save partners an average of £1m a year but the real victors were the company employees.
“It keeps the person at work or gets them back into work as soon as possible,” Mr Bingham added.
XL UK casualty manager Stuart Sutherland said: "We realised an increasing num- ber of employees were absent from work due to non work related injuries.
“The launch of our absence management product pro- vided a vehicle to help our insureds join up existing occupational health, health and safety and private medical insurance services to provide a beneficial service to their employees.”
