PRESS STATEMENT - CLAIMS STANDARDS COUNCIL NEW EXECUTIVE TEAM NAMED
20/09/2006
London 20th September 2006
The Claims Standards Council has today named the new executive team appointed to head up the trade body in its dealings with the new claims management regulator.
The executive board is to be chaired by Andrew Twambley of Amelans Solicitors and Injury Lawyers 4 U, supported by Darren Werth of Accident Advice Helpline and Owen Burrows of BOE/Asyst who have also been invited to sit on the DCA Regulatory Consultative Group.
The new CSC Executive will also meet with the regulator on a monthly basis to put forward the industry views on the impending rules and the authorization process.
Commenting on the new structure Andrew Twambley said: ” A strong voice representing the industry’s view is crucial not just to those CSC members that the regulation will effect but also for the DCA and the regulator to ensure they get this regulation right – we intend to make sure that the government succeeds in making this regulation successful firstly in protecting the consumer and secondly ensuring complete transparency in how we provide claims management service.”
Darren Werth of Accident Advice Helpline added: ” For a long time the industry has fought amongst itself in protecting it’s own business interests - It’s clear that we have all matured and now recognise the common enemy that has brought our industry’s reputation into question with the public. The new trade body and executive will ensure that we regain the consumers trust by ensuring this regulation is effective and robust. To do this the CSC executive team will press the government hard to ensure a level playing field in how claims management services are provided to the consumer which includes the insurance sector, lawyers and the unions.”
Owen Burrows of BOE went further; “This industry has been tarnished by a few individuals and companies – we will push the regulator to come down hard on those that flought the rules – we want to ensure that this regulation works and those companies that support that principle will find the CSC a strong and effective trade body.
The Claims Standards Council will be holding an EGM on 12th October
